Professional Experience

Build The Way introduces the architectural design process, with exposure to real construction projects, and a wide range of professionals and consultants involved in making buildings, cities and placemaking.

Throughout the nine months in practice, trainees time is split into receiving training, mentoring and working on live project work.

In the first few months, the majority of the time is spent training and as you develop over the programme you will gain the opportunity to contribute and work on live projects in your practice.

  • This year 2024 - 2025 we have had 5 practices involved: Child Graddon Lewis, GPAD, HUT, Morrow Lorraine and Shedkm.

As the programme expands so will the number of practices who employ a trainee.

  • Your week is structured Monday - Friday. You will be working at your Architecture Practice from 9am - 6pm, Mon, Tues, Wed & Fri.

This will total to 32 hours per week. Thursdays are spent at the LSA and building your professional development through the Day In The Life placements and curating the Final Design brief

  • Whilst each trainee is placed at a different practice, they will all follow the same guidance to allow all trainees to receive the same level of experience and exposure.

Trainees are guided through their training by their Practice Mentors, who enable them to assist with project work where they can use their newly learned skills.

Many of these skills can be applied to a variety of jobs within the industry and help to shape you as an individual. Day to day you will help produce 2D drawings & 3D computer models using a range of computer software, such as SketchUp & Revit. You will work alongside architects, planners and urban designers and more. You will gain experience working on-site, attending meetings and seeing the team's work come to life.
